Holford & District Village Hall

The Village hall hosts many activities ranging from Art Group to Table Tennis. It is registered as a Charity and is governed by a committee drawn from members of the village.

A Coffee Morning is held on the first Saturday of some month to help raise funds for the upkeep of the hall. The Coffee Mornings are run in turn by members of the Village Hall Committee. Apart from Tea/Coffee and cake there are stalls selling second hand books, produce and craft items.

The hall has car parking and disabled toilet facilities. Chairs, tables, cutlery, crockery and glasses are also available.

The village hall refurbishment.  What’s going on?

Full planning permission was granted in late October, including the change of use to part of the adjacent field to create an overflow car park for 30 cars.  This car park is to be shared with Holford Cricket Club.

In November, the two largest funding requests were confirmed by the Big Lottery (£207k) and EDF CIM Fund (£125k). This has been followed in January by a £100,000 confirmation from Viridor Credits.

The Hall Committee is very grateful for the support of Holford Parish Council in securing the Viridor grant, and to the residents of Holford and Dodington for agreeing to the increase in the precept.

We have now secured £432,000 towards the project estimate of £551,000.

We now await confirmation of two further bids (both around £50k) in late February, and the final one (£15k) in March

The building project goes out to tender in mid-February and, if funding is fully secured, the contractor will be appointed during late April.

If all goes to plan the Hall will have to close in late May or early June. Building work is planned to start in June. Completion should be October / November 2018.

Meanwhile, regular events will take place at alternative venues, the most likely being Kilve, Stogursey or N Stowey village halls. This section of the website will be updated as soon as we have confirmation. Your hobby group leader will also advise you of any alternative arrangements.

A summary of the planned changes to the hall can be seen on this page. If you have any questions, please contact Alan Falkingham on 741711.
